Step 1
The Decision to Seek Light
The journey begins when a man, intrigued by the values and history of Freemasonry, takes the first step by expressing his interest. He approaches the fraternity of his own free will, as Freemasonry does not recruit but welcomes those who seek enlightenment and self-improvement.
Step 2
Petition and Investigation
After petitioning a lodge, the candidate undergoes an inquiry process. Members meet with him to discuss his intentions, character, and qualifications, ensuring he shares the fraternity's values: belief in a Supreme Being, integrity, and a desire to contribute positively to society.
Step 3
The Initiation
Upon acceptance, the candidate participates in the Entered Apprentice degree. This degree introduces the fraternity's moral and ethical teachings through symbolism and allegory — an invitation to begin self-discovery guided by lessons of humility, duty, and charity.
Step 4
Progression Through Degrees
Advancing through the Fellowcraft and Master Mason degrees, he delves deeper into Masonic teaching. Each degree builds on the last, emphasizing knowledge, brotherhood, and moral integrity through symbolic tools, allegories, and ceremonies.
Step 5
Building Bonds of Brotherhood
Throughout his journey the new Mason develops strong connections with his lodge brethren. Shared experience and mutual support foster camaraderie and belonging, and the fraternity becomes a place to learn, grow, and contribute.
Step 6
Living the Lessons
The goal of Freemasonry is not confined to lodge meetings or ritual. A Mason strives to embody integrity, kindness, and justice with family, friends, and community — becoming a living example of Masonic principles.
Step 7
Lifelong Learning and Service
The journey does not end with the degrees. It is a lifelong path of learning, reflection, and service: continually seeking light, striving to better himself and the world around him.
